Mother and her two young children die in fiery crash

BATU PAHAT, Malaysia: A mother and her two young children were burnt to death when their car burst into flames after an express bus rammed into their car at the 16th kilometre of Jalan Kluang near Parit Kaspan here.

The victims - Siti Kalsom Borhan, 35, Sahira Aliya Hafiz, three, and her sister Sahira Aisha, six - died on the spot.

The 46-year-old bus driver and eight passengers in the bus escaped unhurt.

OCPD Asst Comm Ibrahim Aris said both vehicles were heading towards Kluang from Batu Pahat in the 11.50am incident.

He said the bus driver was overtaking a vehicle when he rammed into the victim's vehicle, which had stopped at the centre of the road to turn right.

"The impact caused the car to be dragged for about 15m," he said, adding that the bodies had been sent to the Batu Pahat Hospital.

ACP Ibrahim said that the bus driver, who hails from Pasir Gudang and has six traffic summonses for various traffic offences, would be charged in court today. --The Star/Asia News Network
