First look: Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder

By Tony Ng

The mid-engined Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder has arrived in Singapore after being on the market since early 2008.

Armed with a more powerful engine, permanent all-wheel drive and a new chassis that's lighter, the new Gallardo looks to be more powerful than its predecessor.

The 5.2-litre V10 will deliver 560bhp at 8,000rpm, which is 40bhp more than its predecessor. Power-to-weight ration drops to 2.77kg/bhp with the 20kg reduction in vehicle weight. Torque tops at 540Nm at 6,500rpm. As a result, the LP560-4 Spyder clocks its century sprint at a cool 4 seconds.

The folks over at Lamborghini say the new driveline, featuring the "Iniezione Diretta Stratificata" direct fuel injection system also makes for impressive fuel efficiency.

Despite the increase in performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by 18 per cent.

With improved aerodynamics and a redesigned rear diffuser, the LP560-4 Spyder should tackle curves even faster and with more refinement.

The LP 560-4 also offers three different drive programmes in the manual mode - standard, sport with shorter shift times and corsa, which delivers optimum engine acceleration.

To keep the fully-lined fabric top - which comes in black, blue, grey and beige - takes 20 seconds.
