Heavy and intense rain fell over many parts of Singapore this afternoon, resulting in flash floods being reported in several areas in northern central Singapore this afternoon.
According to Singapore's national water agency, PUB, about 90 mm of rain fell in less than one hour (between 3.00pm - 4.00pm). The amount of rainfall is approximately more than 50% of the average monthly rainfall for May.
The heavy rain caused localised flash floods in two areas including the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and 8 and Bishan Street 13. They subsided within 20 minutes, said the PUB.
According to reports in Stomp, floods were also spotted in Nanyang Polytechnic, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park.
Stomp contributor Kenzo said the large drains were unable to cope with the influx of water and they were overflowing.
"Even the big drains at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 beside Seagate were flooded."
Ed said that "the pavement even became submerged underwater!"
He also observed that vehicles had to slow down to avoid their engines stalling, thus affecting traffic flow in the area.
Over at Yio Chu Kang, another Stomp contributor noticed that many students were seen crossing the flooded road in front of Presbyterian High School, and that was quite dangerous.
