Supercar bang up in Monte Carlo

IT WAS a meeting of some of the world’s classiest supercars, with a whole lot of bang.

In one fell swoop of an accident, a blonde woman driving a Bentley Azure in Monte Carlo knocked into four other luxury cars – a Mercedes-Benz, a Ferrari, a Porsche and an Aston Martin, in full view of hundreds of wide-eyed bystanders.

Her gaffe in front of Monaco's swanky Place du Casino has become an overnight news sensation, with many labelling it the world’s most expensive accident.

The total value of the supercars involved is estimated to be £700,000 (S$1.4 million), The Daily Mail said.

According to the UK daily, the woman's Bentley Azure, a £250,000 (S$491,000) car, first scrapped the side of a £75,000 (S$147,000) Mercedes-Benz S Class, before crashing into a black Ferrari F430 worth £143,000 (S$281,000).

The supercar derby came to a stop only after the Bentley ploughed "head-on" into two more cars, a Porsche 911 and an Aston Martin, news.com.au reported.

The Porsche 911 is worth an estimated £80,000 (S$157,200), while the Aston Martin Rapide, a whopping £150,000 (S$294,700).

The Daily Mail said the estimated cost of repairs will be over £40,000 (S$78,500) – with the Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin “requiring new front wings and bumpers”, and for the Bentley, similar repairs and a new door.
