Inspired by Pixar's animated movie Cars, a freelance designer based in Britain, Da Feng, has come up with an innovative concept car, called Project Flake.
On his blog, the automative designer and "futurist" said he loved "the movement of the characters, and how they leaned into the corners", and wanted to translate that into a realistic vehicle.
Feng's vehicle started nearly three years ago as his final project at Britain's Coventry University.
The designer even spoke to an ex-Williams Formula 1 engineer who said the design and execution is sound.
According to Autoblog.com, what you see is 250 active body panels controlled by mini solenoids pulling on carbon nano-tube wires.
The pieces can lay flat or stand up to form a flaky appearance, hence the name.
"When traveling at speed, the car will contract to its closed position to help control airflow, and when under braking or turning, the flakes will spring open to dynamically adjust downforce," Feng said.
"The open flakes will also allow the car to lean into the corner for better handling."
