Registration opens for 4th AsiaOne Adventure Race

By Tony Ng

The AsiaOne Adventure Race, organised by Singapore Press Holdings' news portal AsiaOne, returns for the fourth year running.

The unique islandwide treasure hunt this year comes with bigger cash prizes and more challenges.

This year's race also comes with a twist that should get your engines humming - it is a special Singles' Edition.

Adventurous individuals can now join the race on their own or go with a friend, instead of forming teams of four prior to registration, which was one of the criteria in previous editions of the Adventure Race. However, participants will compete in teams of four.

The fourth edition of the race is set to be one of the biggest as the organisers can accommodate up to 30 teams of four, up from eight teams in 2009.

The race will see the teams darting around the island in their own cars, which will remain the main mode of travel.

Teams have to find checkpoints, putting their wits, strength and endurance to the test. Participants will have to conquer challenges and crack codes to find out their next destination.

As an example, last year's teams had to take part in a four-lap relay around a go-kart track and things turned slippery when it began to rain. The gung-ho participants were also called upon to scale an indoor rock wall.

But not all activities will be physically demanding.

Over $12,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs, including over $5,000 in cash, $7,000 worth of 313@somerset shopping vouchers, air tickets to Macau and Nikon cameras.

The winning team will walk away with a bigger purse than last year - $4,000 in cash and $1,000 worth of shopping vouchers.

Those who do not come in in the top four positions will still have a shot at winning something.

Every team which completes the race stands to win 313@somerset shopping vouchers.

One of the registrants this year, executive Lena Lin, who described herself as fun-loving and adventurous, said her interest was piqued when she saw video clips of last year's edition of the race.

She said she hoped to join the race so that she could challenge herself and also get to know more people.
