SMRT report on disruptions completed

By Sujin Thomas

SINGAPORE - The Internal Investigation Team (IIT) commissioned by SMRT to review the causes of the Dec 15 and 17 train disruptions on the North-South Line has completed its work.

The team has submitted its report to the board of directors, SMRT said yesterday. The report will in turn be submitted to the Committee of Inquiry (COI) convened by the Government.

The COI will begin public hearings on April 16 to look into the disruptions that affected 200,000 commuters.

SMRT said in response to my paper queries that the report was not made public because it did not wish to give the impression that the findings are definitive.

Other investigations are still in progress, it added.

The IIT was commissioned by the SMRT board to review a number of issues, including the causes of the disruptions and the company's response.

SMRT said it "appreciates the findings and recommendations provided by the IIT and will carefully study and evaluate them, and consider further improvements that may be required".
