In the fifth day of hearings looking into December's MRT breakdowns, an SMRT representative revealed that the transport provider has revised procedures to allow its Rail Incident Management Plan (RIMP) to be activated sooner than before.
Giving his testimony in court today, Mr Lum Kok Soon, manager of SMRT Operations Control Centre (OCC), clarified that he now has authority to activate the RIMP during disruptions.
This has been in place after the breakdowns happened on December 15 & 17. Back then, the RIMP was activated by SMRT vice-president of rail operations Lui Wai Meng.
The committee had commented on Thursday that the plan should have been activated earlier on Dec 15, reported The Straits Times.
The Rimp involves activating key personnel and support staff while procedures such as bus bridging are put in place.
By allowing Mr Lum to activate the RIMP, he believes the plan can be implemented much faster as he would know what is happening on the ground and the delay of going through senior management would be avoided.
