Continental cars set to steal the show at Super Import Nights

By Angelina Dass

SINGAPORE - Back for the fourth time, Super Import Nights (SIN) 2012 looks like it is set to draw in the crowds with hot cars, gorgeous women and a weekend of entertainment.

Singapore's only car show makes a return after a three-year hiatus, this time boasting a majority of continental cars.

SIN 2012 has on display about 100 modified cars of which almost 70 per cent are continental cars. Unlike previous years where Japanese models made up the majority, the Asian models make up just 30 per cent this year.

Sole proprietor of organizing company Three Angles Production, Simon Foo attributed this phenomenon to prices of certificates of entitlement (COE).

He said that the increasing COE narrows the price gap between continental cars and Japanese ones. Mr Foo believes that more potential car owners interested in modifying are willing to pay slightly more for a continental one.

Expecting a turnout of more than 60,000 enthusiasts, Mr Foo added that this year's custom styling competition has also seen an increase in the number of participants. In this contest, owners with the best exterior and interior modifications will be crowned winners.

"The high standard of judging in the competition has made it attractive to foreigners," he said. For the first time, SIN received four entries from Malaysia.

Automobile enthusiasts not only can feast their eyes on these machines, but also on 20 gorgeous race queens specially flown in from Thailand, Taiwan and US.

The models caused quite the stir when they first made their appearance at Expo Hall 3 at noon today. Armed with cameras, many enthusiasts flocked to the models eager to snap photographs of them.

When asked which was the bigger draw, the cars or the girls? Mr Foo said it's not just about the cars, but also about providing an added value for consumers who have to pay $10 to enter the show.

"Consumers must have a reason to come for the show," he said. Over and above the cars, the entertainment must be attractive too.

He said that this time round SIN will have an eventful entertainment line-up with Singapore Pole Challenge happening on Saturday evening and the crowning of Miss SIN 2012 on Sunday night.

Contestants of the race queen pageant have posted their photos on the official Facebook page of SIN 2012 and have been vying for votes since April.

Super Import Nights is happening from May 25 to 27 at Singapore Expo Hall 3. Tickets are priced at $10 for Adults and $5 for Children (3 to 12 years old) and will be available at the door.

Show timings: 11am to 10pm (May 25 and 26)
                       11am to 9pm (May 27)
