SingTel unveils top eight Grid Girls for 2012

SINGAPORE - Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) today unveiled the top eight SingTel Grid Girls decked out in their new uniforms.

The eight potential race queens, ranging from 18 to 23 years old, were chosen after one round of auditions and will compete to clinch one of the top three spots.

Only eight girls were chosen this year, compared to the 12 in previous years, in an attempt to raise the level of competition, said SingTel.

"We raised the level of competition this year by allowing only eight instead of the usual 12 to make the cut. We are very happy with our finalists and invite the public to vote for their favourites and come down to meet them at our final road show - we guarantee that this year's contest is going to be exciting," said Mr Johan Buse, SingTel's Vice President of Consumer Marketing.

For the first time, this year's winners will be chosen solely by online and SMS voting. They will be crowned at a road show at East Coast Park on September 2.

The three will win cash prizes and be at the front of the starting grid on race day. They will also hold the Singapore, Formula One™ and Singapore GP flags at the race to be held from September 21 - 23.

The girls will be dressed in outfits designed by local designer Rosalinda Abdul Rahman, winner of F1 design competition "The Project Racetrack".

A SingTel spokesperson said the new outfits are made from lightweight and water-resistant fabric, designed to be stylish and comfortable on the race tracks.

Members of the public will be able to vote for the favourite grid girls from August 3 to August 27.
