Road closures and extended public transport timings for NDP 2012

SINGAPORE - To ensure that the National Day Parade 2012 takes place smoothly, the traffic police have said that some roads and lanes will be closed on Aug 9.

Only authorised vehicles will be given access to those roads and public bus services along those roads will also be affected.

Traffic delays are expected along Raffles Boulevard, Raffles Avenue, Republic Avenue, Bras Basah Road, Nicoll Highway, Esplanade Drive and Bayfront Avenue.

Motorists are advised to plan their route early and avoid these areas. People who intend to vist Suntec City and Marina Square on Aug 9 are advised to use public transport.

Motorists proceeding to Suntec City and Marina Square from Crawford Street and Ophir Road are advised to use alternate routes via Nicoll Highway or Beach Road.

Parking restrictions along the peripheral roads will be strictly enforced. Vehicles found parking indiscriminately and/or causing obstruction will be towed away.

Meanwhile, SMRT will be extending its hours of service for its trains and selected bus services on the eve of National Day.

The North-South, East-West and Circle Line trains and selected buses will be operational until 1.35am (Aug 9).

From City Hall Interchange, the last Northbound, Southbound, Eastbound and Westbound trains will depart at 12.30am.

Train services between Expo and Changi Airport Stations remain unchanged.

There will also be later feeder buses at five SMRT bus interchanges: Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Sembawang, Woodlands and Yishun.

SMRT also advises members of the public who are heading to Marina Bay Sands to alight at Bayfront Station as road closures will block access from Promenade Station.
