SINGAPORE - The lorry looked like it was about to exit from the outdoor carpark area.
But it sped down the wrong lane and crashed through the gantry.
A carpark attendant at Choa Chu Kang Stadium, who declined to be named, was astounded to see this on Wednesday when he checked the closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage from Tuesday night.
"The lorry was probably delivering goods and parked at the outdoor carpark for about 30 minutes before it left (for the indoor carpark)," he said.
After the lorry entered the covered carpark, it knocked down a height barricade meant to prevent vehicles above the height limit of 2.2m from entering.
It then smashed into some parked cars that were about 20m from the entrance, said a user on citizen journalism website Stomp .
The cars, one of which was a blue Toyota, were badly mangled, he said.
The police said they received a call on Tuesday at about 8.20pm requesting assistance at the carpark of 1,Choa Chu Kang Street 53.
On arrival, they established that a lorry had collided into the carpark gantry and four vehicles.
The Stomp user said: "The owner of the blue Toyota appeared a while later and was shocked by the damage done.
"When the traffic police arrived, the driver was not allowed to drive the lorry away and had to call someone to come down to drive it."
No one was sent to hospital and the parties involved were advised on their legal recourse, the police said.
When The New Paper visited the carpark on Wednesday afternoon, the broken entrance and height gantries had been replaced.
The Singapore Sports Council, which runs the stadium, said it is assisting the police with their investigations.
