Watch out for F1 road closures in Marina Centre

By Victoria Barker

Road closures in the Marina Centre area for this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix will take effect just after midnight tonight, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in a statement yesterday.

The affected roads will be re-opened progressively after Sunday's final Formula One (F1) race, with all roads fully accessible by 5am next Tuesday.

Motorists will still be able to access the area via a single lane along Nicoll Highway and Raffles Boulevard, but only at certain times.

Alternatively, motorists can enter via Temasek Boulevard, from the East Coast Parkway slip road to Rochor Road, throughout the day. Access via these two routes may be regulated, depending on traffic conditions.

During the morning peak hours - from 5am to 9.30am - from tomorrow till Friday, motorists will still be able to use Nicoll Highway, Esplanade Drive and the stretch from Republic Avenue to Bayfront Avenue.

LTA said that certain Electronic Road Pricing gantries, such those in New Bridge Road, South Bridge Road and Republic Boulevard, will be non-operational during designated hours from Thursday.

Motorists will not be charged at the first two gantries between 6pm and 7pm on Thursday and Friday, while there will be no charge between 12pm and 8pm on those days at the third gantry.
