11-year-old cyclist in a coma after collision with lorry

SINGAPORE - An 11-year-old boy is in a coma after he was knocked down by a lorry while cycling in Macpherson on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at the junction of Balam Road and Circuit road at around 3.45pm, The Straits Times reported.

Suffering from head injuries, the boy was sent to KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) after the accident, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said.

The boy's mother, who declined to be named nor give her son's name, said on Wednesday night that her son, who is warded in the hospital's intensive care unit, was still unconscious.

She told The Straits Times that she does not "blame anyone for this".

Lianhe Wanbao reported that the boy, still dressed in his school uniform, was on his way to buy noodles from a nearby convenience store when the accident occurred.

Driving back to his company's warehouse in Ubi, the lorry driver told the Chinese paper that he noticed the boy only after the accident.
