A global study by Shell found that Singapore drivers are the most passive when it comes to fuel economy. Among drivers in 11 markets, only 15 per cent of motorists here take an active role in improving their vehicles' fuel consumption. That compares with 46 per cent for those in the Philippines (the most active), 25 per cent for those in Hong Kong (the closest to Singapore), and a global average of 37 per cent.
The poll, which surveyed over 3,000 respondents, also found that rising fuel prices in recent years have not really affected Singaporeans' driving habits. Only 33 per cent of those polled here said they were affected, compared with a global average of 40 per cent. Shell did the study as part of its 'commitment to sustainable usage of fossil fuel'.
