Fast lane: Navigation at its best
Sat, Jun 30, 2007
The Straits Times

GERMANY'S VDOdayton has launched its new all-in-one car infotainment set here. The VRM 6200 screens DVD movies, has iPod connection and is able to play music or display pictures on SD cards. It also offers Bluetooth hands-free phone operation, with dialing capability. Its 6.5-inch anti-glare touchscreen is also linked to a rear-view camera.

However, its navigation is the killer application. Available with Singapore and Malaysia maps stored on an SD card, the system offers 3D display and will work even when satellite signals are lost temporarily - using information such as the vehicle's speed and direction.

It is supposedly the only system in Asia with this capability. Distributed by Advan Syn, the VRM 6200 is retailing at $2,999 before GST and installation charges.
