6 things money can buy

1. Lamborghini Gallardo, $798,000 to $928,000
From Lamborghini Singapore

As recently as 2001, Lamborghini was languishing with zero sales for many years. But with the first new-generation of reliable and driveable cars rolling out under Audi ownership, Lambo has become a contender again.

The most popular model is the Gallardo, which also happens to be the most saleable supercar here. You can choose the top-end lightweight Superleggera, the Spyder convertible or the "basic" model.

2. Ducati 1098, $39,000 to $48,800
From Minerva Motor

The well-off are splurging not only on four-wheelers. They are snapping up high-end bikes too.

Ducati, known as the Ferrari of motorcycles, sold 41 machines in the first six months, almost equalling what it sold the whole of last year.

The topselling range is the 1098, which retails for as much as a Japanese family sedan. The 1.1-litre 1098S has nearly as much power as a twincharged VW Golf GT, giving it a top pump up speed of 275kmh.

3. Lexus LS600h, $419,000 to $468,000
From Borneo Motors

The Lexus LS600h is the world's most powerful petrol-electric hybrid car. It is also the most extravagant. A four-seater limo version costs $468,000 (before green rebate).

The LS600h is powered by a 5-litre petrol engine and two electric motors. This gives it the performance of a 6-litre car, and the fuel consumption of a 3.5-litre. Launched only last month, 30 orders have already been collected.

4. Porsche 911, $379,888 to $649,888
From Stuttgart Auto

Flagship models are rarely bestsellers, simply because lesser models are more accessible economically. But the evergreen Porsche 911 is an exception. After all these years, it is still the most saleable, making up just under half of
total Porsche sales here.

5. Bentley Continental Flying Spur, $710,000
From Malayan Motor

It was not too long ago that Bentley sales were in the single digits. Often, zero. Last year, a record 36 units were sold. This year, it looks like sales will exceed 40. The most sought after model is the Flying Spur, which costs
about as much as the most expensive HDB flat.

6. Mercedes-Benz S300L, $295,888
From Cycle & Carriage

The quintessential towkay's car currently outsells its closest rival limo, the BMW 7-series, by three to one.

The best-selling variant is the "entry-level" S300L, which makes up slightly more than half of S-class sales.
