Two-wheeler talker

'I was riding' used to be the number one reason for not answering my phone.

For better or for worse, that last excuse has been taken away by the Supertooth Moto.

This bluetooth hands-free kit was designed for motorcyclists who need to answer phone calls while on the road.

It is attached to your helmet via a clip that is fairly easy to install.

Simply put the parts together on your helmet and use the two included plastic screws to secure the clip's parts to your helmet. Then slide the bluetooth unit into it.

The earpiece cum microphone headset that attaches to the bluetooth unit is secured via velcro stickers that go under the helmet's inner lining.

At 35g, you won't be able to feel any extra weight difference while wearing the helmet. However, the microphone, which is slightly larger than a Chupa Chup, might take a little getting used to in the confines of your helmet.

The device is waterproof, so there's no need to worry about sudden downpours while riding.

The sponge covering the microphone's mouthpiece, however, will get wet.

Answering calls is a matter of pressing the buttons on the kit, or speaking into the microphone which is a boon for riders uncomfortable with taking their hands off the handlebars, like myself.

Rejecting calls is just as easy - just stay silent for seven seconds.

The volume, however, requires manual adjustment. Thankfully, I found the buttons all fairly easy to reach, which minimises potentially dangerous fumbling.

Ambient noise is compensated for by the speakers, who would have to adjust the speaker volume automatically. Those I spoke to had no trouble hearing me.

At 10 hours talk time and 700 hours of stand by time, there's no need to worry about running out of juice while on the road.

The Supertooth Moto also functions as an intercom between the rider and the pillion but you would need to get two sets. To answer the phone while talking to your pillon, press the button to answer the incoming call.

It comes with a charger and is compatible with all helmets in the market.

While I still would not recommend anything that might distract riders on the road, should one need to answer urgent calls, the Supertooth Moto is a good option to stopping by the side of the expressway to pick up your cell phone.
