Malaysian highway robbers spray liquid on tyres to create smoke

A Stomp contributor sent in this e-mail that highlighted a new tactic currently used by highway robbers in Malaysia. The contributor Chiongster said the robbers spray a liquid on the tyres that creates a burst of smoke to fool unwary drivers into pulling over.

The Stomp contributor called for fellow drivers to be careful when they drive into Malaysia, especially in Petaling Jaya and areas around Kuala Lumpur.

He said: "Take steps to protect yourself, and don't stop unnecessarily. If you have to pull over, do it where there are lots of people nearby."

"When you encounter such a situation, don't panic. Stay calm and don't park your car to check what is going on," the contributor added.

"Once you get out from your car, they will snatch your belongings or may even harm you.

"If you ever encounter such an incident, drive to a safe place where crowded people are or to a petrol or police station. As for the stain, use water to clean it up, that's all.

Female motorists should be especially careful, he said, before adding that such a case had happened before.
