Ferrari's Felipe Massa still optimistic he can win F1 title

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) -- Ferrari driver Felipe Massa remains confident of his chances of winning the Formula One title despite a 21-point disadvantage to leader Lewis Hamilton.

Massa is fourth in the F1 championship with 59 points. Hamilton of McLaren leads with 80 points, seven more than teammate Fernando Alonso. Massa's teammate Kimi Raikkonen is third with 60.

"We made some mistakes and that's why we are in this situation," Massa said. "But I'm going to fight until the end and I'm not going to put my head down."

The Brazilian finished 13th in the Hungarian Grand Prix last week after a disappointing qualifying run that made him start from the back of the grid.

"It was the worst race of my life," Massa said. "Every driver goes through a bad race in their life, I hope mine is in the past. I trust my team and my car and I'm still motivated."

The next race is on Aug. 26 in Turkey.

"I like the Turkish GP, that's where I won my first race, last year," Massa said.

During his time off in Sao Paulo, Massa also said that former teammate Michael Schumacher will participate in a "Challenge of the Stars" charity karting race in Brazil in November.

"I try to gather my friends and have fun," Massa said. "At the same time it's an event for charity."

Massa said he will also invite Alonso for the race in the southern city of Florianopolis.
