IF the sleek lines don't win you over and you still need to find another reason to want an Audi A5, just consider that this is the German carmaker's first two-door full four-seater model since the rally-inspired Coupe Quattro from more than 10 years ago.
When the A5 arrives here next year in the second quarter, it will mark a return to a segment which has long been dominated by BMW and to a lesser extent, Mercedes-Benz.
Walter de'Silva calls the A5 his 'most beautiful design ever' and even if you don't agree with the Audi design boss, you have to admit that the car has an edgier and more sculptured look than the previous soapbar-like examples.
Inside the A5, there is that traditional Audi build quality. The beautifully made cabin is also remarkably spacious despite having small-ish windows. But the back seats will be more suited to smaller occupants because of the legroom.
Unfortunately, the A5's handling is also traditionally Audi. Where BMW and Mercedes-Benz are rear-wheel-driven, power for the entry-level A5 1.8 TFSI goes to its front wheels. For many, that may mean the difference between a sporty coupe and a sporty-looking coupe.
All is not lost, however. If it is a more dynamic performance that you seek, then look no further than the all-wheel-drive, 265 hp, 3.2-litre six-cylinder version. The downside, of course, is that it costs more.
But if it is good looks and a premium badge that you seek of your coupe, then the 1.8-litre turbocharged A5 will surely tick all the boxes for you.
