A PORSCHE is already a very special car but it is possible to make it stand out even more on the road, like when it is given the Porsche Design treatment.
The Porsche Design studio is best associated with classic men's accessories.
It has a history that goes all the way back to Prof Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the man who created the Porsche 911. The studio also develops industrial products and consumer goods for global brands, like Vienna's streetcars.
But it is when a Porsche sports car gets a Porsche Design makeover that the results are especially delectable.
Take the Boxster S roadster for example. The beauty of the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 is that it is neither garish nor vulgar but instead, exquisitely understated.
The two-seater mid-engined convertible may boast special paintwork and stripes but everything remains stylishly subtle.
Limited to only 500 units, the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 is immediately distinctive in its brilliant Carrara White paintwork with three light grey stripes running from front to back.
They come with matching white side air intakes and 19-inch SportDesign wheels.
Completing the look are red tail lamps and a fabric roof that is not the standard black but stone grey.
Inside, the Carrara White body colour is applied to the dashboard trim as well as the lower centre console.
On the glove compartment is a badge stamped with this limited series car's production number.
The cabin has other special touches, like the soft smooth alcantara lining the steering wheel, gear lever and parking brake handle.
The faces on the three instrument dials are also finished in white.
And if that is not enough, there is also a special lifestyle accessory - the Edition 2 Chronograph Porsche Design men's watch from the Dashboard Collection with the same white face as the rev counter and speedometer.
Behind the driver, the 3.4-litre Boxer engine offers 8 horsepower more than the conventional Boxster S to bring it to a total of 303 hp.
For those who prefer a fixed roof, there is a Porsche Design version of the Cayman S mid-engined coupe. Or maybe a superfast SUV.
The Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 is limited to 1,000 numbered units worldwide.
This 405 hp Cayenne has a special paintwork colour tantalisingly named Lava Grey Metallic and it is emphasised by the design stripes at the side and on the bonnet lid, as well as the massive 21-inch SportPlus wheels.
Bi-xenon headlights are standard, as are the dark privacy glass of the rear windows and an extended roof spoiler with a double wing profile.
But in case all these still do not make it obvious that this cayenne is different, the "Cayenne GTS" model designation at the rear is in black with a red "S".
The cabin continues the black and red theme - the black leather upholstery has red contrasting seams on the instrument panel and doorsills.
The headrests of the electrically adjustable sports seats display an embossed Porsche logo, while the centre seat sections are finished in alcantara.
As with other limited edition Porsches, the Cayenne GTS Porsche Design Edition 3 has the vehicle serial number embossed on a placard on the dashboard.
Best of all is the unique audio experience on offer. First is the sports exhaust system which can be made even more glorious at the touch of a button.
Second is the 14-speaker Bose 5.1 Surround Sound System with an output of 410 watts.
