Fastlane: VW unveils another self-parking car

VW's existing self-parking mechanism, already available in production models such as the Touran and Tiguan, requires the driver to stay in the car and apply the brakes if necessary.

VOLKSWAGEN has unveiled its next self-parking technology: one that works with the driver outside the car. All he does is aim a remote control at the car and it reverses into a vertical lot all by itself. When it is done, it will wind up the windows, turn its engine off and lock the doors. The so-called Park Assist Vision is designed to overcome the problem of occupants getting out of a car in tight parking lots. VW's existing self-parking mechanism, already available in production models such as the Touran and Tiguan, requires the driver to stay in the car and apply the brakes if necessary.
