A NEW parking system is expected to be introduced for the whole of Selangor in order to reduce losses incurred by the state government and local authorities in the state.

State local government committee chairman Ronnie Liu said they were in the process of carrying out a study on the parking system.

Besides reducing losses, he said the study also included providing a more efficient public parking system for the state. "We do not want private companies to make money from the privatised parking system at the expense of the people and the state.

"We are definitely looking at a better system than what we have at the moment," he said in his reply to an oral question from Batu Caves assemblyman Amiruddin Shari.

In response to another question, Liu said the state government was unable to abolish the contracts of Alam Flora contractors currently carrying out maintenance works for the various local authorities.

He said most of these contractors had obtained their jobs through contracts and, therefore, the local authorities were obligated to honour the contracts.

"However, we are monitoring their performance and will not hesitate to terminate those who fail to perform to the expectations of the people," he said.

Liu added that all local authorities in the state had been instructed to abide strictly by the state government's guidelines when it came to the process of awarding maintenance jobs to contractors.
