Boy dragged for 5km after car hits motorbike he was on
Driver allegedly knew boy was pinned on front of car but didn't stop; Mohd Hanafiz's head was crushed when he was dragged.
THE boy's father was so traumatised he did not want to look at his dead son. Mohd Hanafiz Suhairi, 10, was dragged for 5km along the road after he flung from a motorcycle he was riding pillion following an accident on Friday night near Rantau Panjang, Pahang. That distance is nearly twice the distance from Marriott Hotel on Orchard Road to Raffles City on Bras Basah Road. The boy suffered massive head injuries and died on the spot. Mr Suhairi Yusof, 35, told Kosmo: "I have no heart to look at my son's body with the left side of his head smashed and his face beyond recognition." Mohd Hanafiz and brother Mohd Hafizi, 7, were being taken home by their cousin, MrRidzuan Razali, 19, after running an erand when a Proton Wira hit the motorcycle from behind. According to a police spokesman, the car had overtaken a taxi just before the collision. All three on the motorbike were flung off, but Mohd Hanafiz was somehow caught below the bonnet of the car, reported Utusan Malaysia. The car driver was allegedly aware that the boy was still on his car as he drove towards Rantau Panjang. He only stopped when he had to filter into another road and was nabbed by a Civil Defence officer. The two passengers in the car fled. The 34-year-old driver was taken to the police station, where he made a police statement. He was subsequently released. The police spokesman said: "Our initial investigation showed that the driver was driving at high speed and couldn't stop it in time when he saw the motorcycle." The accident took place as the motorcycle was approaching the boy's home. Mr Suhairi told Harian Metro he had heard a loud noise in the front of the house, which is also a car repair workshop. He said that at the accident scene, he saw only two victims - his eldest child was missing. The younger boy was crying and Mr Ridzuan was unconscious. "As I was looking for Mohd Hanafiz, some people told me that my eldest child had been dragged for 5km to Rantau Panjang," he told Kosmo. He said he rushed to the town and found the boy covered in blood. Mohd Hanafiz died on the spot and part of his body was crushed. "I had no heart to look at the body and I asked relatives to help me identify it." Mr Ridzuan was said to be in a coma in hospital, while Mohd Hafizi was treated as an outpatient and discharged after getting three stitches to his forehead. |
