A petrol-electric Toyota Supra has won the Tokachi 24-Hour Race - a first for a hybrid. The victorious green car, based on the Supra GT, has in-wheel motors in front and a 150kW rear-axle mounted motor. They assist a 4.5-litre 480-horse petrol engine. Instead of heavy batteries, the car has a special capacitor system.

The Supra completed 616 laps in 24 hours - 19 more than the second fastest car. Last year, a Lexus GS450h hybrid finished 17th in the same race. Toyota is expected to launch a hybrid Supra at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.
